Acid Jazz Cabin
The acid jazz you need, now with more cabin
I played alto saxophone with the Acid Jazz Cabin from 2014-2015. We were a group of jazz-influenced Stanford students looking to make some funky sounds and get people to dance. We performed shows around Stanford campus and once on a boat cruise in the San Francisco Bay. We wrote, recorded, and released an EP of all original music called, "Acid Jazz Cabin Builds a Cabin." I contributed a composition called "Skyline" to the group that, after some additional composition by our guitarist and vocalist, become one of my favorite tracks on the album.
Vocals: Natasha Avery
Guitar: David Grunzweig
Alto Sax: Adam Genecov
Keys: Nick Troccoli
Bass: Anna Tskhovrebov
Drums: Tucker Leavitt (previously Carl Michnovicz)
Acid Jazz Cabin Builds a Cabin (2015)
An EP consisting of originals written by all members of the group. Every solo on the album was improvised. Our guitarist, David, recorded and mastered the entire thing.
South of Eden was a collective effort from the band but was mostly written by our former drummer, Carl Michnovicz. It's about Satan. Don't worry about it.
Skyline was a composition that I brought to the group after composing the chorus with my friend Brandon Skerda. David and our vocalist, Natasha, brought structure and lyrics, respectively, and the song became incredible.
Hypnagogia was an old composition by David from the days of the old Acid Jazz Cabin. He thinks it now lives up to its psychedelic potential.
David wrote the chords to Coda and Natasha wrote some haunting lyrics to provide a lower-key interlude on the album.
The final track, Squint, was written almost entirely by our new drummer, Tucker. Legendary trumpet player Daniel Bereket offered harmonies that gave the track exactly what it needed.
Our rhythm players Nick and Anna both composed and improvised their lines and fills to make the album into the wonderful adventure it became.
Before writing originals, we were a funk, R&B, and acid-jazz cover band. Hear some of our covers below.
Stronger than Me (Amy Winehouse)
